Dyanna is a glass artist and silversmith living in Portsmouth, NH. She uses kiln fusing and lampworking techniques to create beads and charms that are a style mix of retro and romantic, preferring simplicity of design with color carrying the focus. Dyanna was motivated to explore glass as an artistic medium by her formative years mesmerized by the stained glass windows of her church in Ohio. She now translates that beauty into wearable art.
She shares her time between art and the environment, has a PhD in Environmental Communications and Filmmaking, and works for NH Audubon when not in the studio. Milkweed Cottage Studio is named in honor of her endless childhood quest for milkweed – the exclusive host of the monarch butterfly caterpillar.
As a scientist I often find myself distracted by the designs around me: the curve of a spotted salamander, the brown and teal iridescence of a beetle’s shell. I use that now in my art.
Dyanna has participated in the Portsmouth Holiday Arts Tour since 2006.
